Occupy Your Water Keepers of the Waters invites you to take action!
Occupy Your Water is an idea that follows the Occupy Movement’s protest against social and economic inequality. Occupy Your Water’s focus is the take-over of our natural water sources and the privatization of municipal systems. In the United States, Nestle made a corporate bid for the pristine waters of Mt. Shasta in 2003. Fortunately, there were local citizens who realized the danger and organized to stop the action. Keepers of the Waters was there with guidance and encouragement to those involved. In Los Angeles, Betsy Damon led workshops and assisted community organizing to bring awareness to the Ballona Creek watershed. The Friends of Ballona Creek are now very active and have made significant strides in returning natural features to their creek. ![]() Privatization of water sources worldwide is an economic and social issue and presents an alarming attack on human rights. Water must be accessible, healthy and affordable to support the populations of our earth. When it becomes a corporate commodity, the decisions made are not from a moral humanistic standpoint, but about the financial bottom line, profit becomes paramount to health and sustainability. Through direct community action we can make a difference. Now is the time to stand up and speak out. This is our forum where you can share ideas and express your opinions in an open dialogue. Also, please share your stories of action. OccupyYour Water
