As a model village project, Betsy Damon is consultant and mentor for Duncan Cheung who is an intern with CURA, the Chengdu Urban Rivers Association. CURA is a Chengdu government NGO that is an evolution from the Living Water Garden. This project under Duncan was approved and has received seed funding from the Chengdu government and the private sector.
In six short months, he researched and trained twelve Chinese to work with him. The An Long village, Pi county on the northern water shed of Chengdu, is a pilot village and the project will be implemented in 10 additional villages on the watershed. It involves treatment of all used water, groundwater, river and lake protection, methane gas use for energy, green agriculture and a center for meetings, training and education to disseminate information. By combining ecology, economics and education, it will be a suitable model for rural development. We are seeking funding for this project.
